PROFESSIONAL STAFF: Juvenile Probation and Parole Officers shall be selected upon merit. The minimum requirement in educational preparation shall be a Bachelor's Degree in a Behavioral or Social Science or Social Work from an accredited college, or shall meet the requirements set forth in the exceptional person's clause. In the selection of Juvenile Probation and Parole Officers, integrity, emotional maturity, broad common sense and the ability to learn from experience should be deemed essential qualities. A valid driver's license and a personal vehicle are also necessary. In addition, staff must provide Act 33 and 34 clearances. SECRETARIAL STAFF: Clerical staff shall be selected based on merit. No educational degrees are required, but they need to possess the skills of efficiency, accuracy, organization and the ability to manage detail. In addition, they need to be proficient on keyboards, quickly able to grasp the use of a Dictaphone, computer, able to provide accurate verbal communications, and able to manage and maintain a variety of types of information. In addition, staff must provide Act 33 and 34 clearances. INTERNSHIPS: Students who wish to conduct practicums within the Department will be accepted when feasible. An intern would be under the supervision of a Juvenile Probation and Parole Officer, who would insure that the student gains experience in as many functions of the Department as possible. |
